Difference Between Total Count of Custom Variables & Page Views (no replies)

Hi folks,

I have noticed that the total count of page views differs from the total count of some CustomVariable I am also tracking on every page (same AJAX request).

How can that be? My page views are always lower than the total of the CustomVariable.
